Locker Room Recycling Bin for Waste Sorting

Locker Room Recycling Bin became part of our school after we reviewed how the sports facilities were used before and after physical education lessons and after-school training sessions. Drink bottles, snack packaging, printed team sheets and towel wrappers moved through the locker room several times each day.

At first, recyclable materials accumulated on benches and near the doorway because students moved quickly between changing and returning to lessons or training. Empty bottles were left behind after PE lessons, and packaging from post-training snacks collected in the same area throughout the afternoon.

We initially assumed this waste would be managed during the regular end-of-day cleaning routine. After reviewing use across a typical week, we found that the locker room was used intensively by several different groups each day, meaning waste built up well before the scheduled cleaning took place.

We placed a dedicated recycling bin near the entrance of the locker room, allowing bottles and packaging to be sorted as students changed between classes or training sessions.

The change became noticeable within the first weeks. Benches stayed clear for the next group using the facility, the doorway area no longer accumulated waste between sessions, and the room felt ready for use throughout the school day rather than only after cleaning.

Sports staff noted that turning the locker room around between back-to-back classes became noticeably easier.

That experience showed us that a locker room is used in short, repeated intervals throughout the day rather than a single block of time. When recycling is available during each of those intervals, the space stays functional without relying solely on end-of-day cleaning.
