Lobby Recycling Bin for Waste Sorting

Lobby Recycling Bin became an important addition after we noticed how many recyclable items accumulated in the busiest area of our building. Employees passed through the lobby several times a day, visitors waited there before meetings and delivery drivers regularly stopped at reception. Although people rarely stayed long, the space continuously generated paper, bottles, coffee cups and small packaging.

Initially, everyone carried recyclable items further into the building or left them on nearby tables while waiting for someone. Brochures, takeaway cups and empty bottles appeared throughout the day, making the lobby look untidy even though the reception staff worked hard to keep the area presentable.

At first, we believed a recycling station in the lobby would be unnecessary because people only spent a few minutes there. After observing how the space was used, we realised those few minutes were exactly when most recycling decisions were made. People naturally wanted to dispose of items before entering meetings or continuing into the office.

Instead of expecting visitors and employees to search for another recycling point, we placed a dedicated recycling bin directly in the lobby. Recyclable materials could be sorted immediately without interrupting anyone’s visit or daily routine.

The difference became visible almost immediately. Waiting areas stayed clear throughout the day, reception tables no longer collected abandoned cups and the entrance remained organised even during busy periods with frequent visitors.

One receptionist mentioned that welcoming guests became easier because the lobby consistently looked prepared without requiring constant attention. The only real change was that recycling became part of the entrance experience instead of something located elsewhere in the building.

That experience showed us that lobbies are constantly changing environments where many different people pass through every day. When recycling is available exactly where those first interactions happen, the space stays organised naturally without interrupting the flow of visitors or employees.
