Design Office Recycling Bin for Waste Sorting
Design Office Recycling Bin became part of our daily routine after our design team moved into a dedicated creative workspace. Every project brought printed layouts, sketches, packaging from material samples, cardboard tubes, coffee cups and bottles into the office. As ideas developed, recyclable materials accumulated alongside active design work.
At first, designers placed recyclable items wherever there was free space. Drafts waiting for review often shared the same tables as empty sample packaging, while bottles and coffee cups stayed beside workstations until someone remembered to clear them away. During busy project periods, it became difficult to distinguish active materials from items that were no longer needed.
We initially thought this was simply part of the creative process. However, after observing how the studio was used, we realised the problem was not the amount of material but the lack of a convenient place to recycle it without interrupting ongoing work.
We introduced a dedicated recycling bin directly inside the design office so paper, bottles and packaging could be sorted immediately after use. Designers no longer needed to leave the studio or postpone recycling until the end of the day.
Within a short time, the workspace began to feel more organised. Project tables remained available for sketches and prototypes, recyclable materials disappeared as soon as they were no longer required and new projects could start without first clearing away unnecessary items from previous sessions.
One designer commented that brainstorming sessions flowed more naturally because the workspace stayed ready for new ideas. Nothing about the team’s creative process had changed. The improvement came from making recycling available exactly where the work happened.
That experience showed us that a design office is constantly evolving as concepts become prototypes and new ideas replace old ones. When recycling is integrated into the creative workspace, keeping the studio organised becomes a natural part of every design project.
