On September 19, eagerly awaited recycling stations arrived in each classroom of several Tallinn kindergartens. Among 29 lucky schools, eight waste sorting stations were delivered, allowing educators to continue the important work of teaching children proper recycling habits with brand-new tools.
The new stations complement existing outdoor waste sorting facilities in the city and help reinforce both the habit and understanding of separating waste. In one preschool pilot project, the children’s group even shared their eco-friendly message with the whole city through Tallinn TV. The classroom team, led by their education coordinator, guided the children in learning how to use the stations responsibly.
Children explored the new recycling stations together, discussing the symbols, which types of waste go into each section, and deciding who would empty the bins and when. They also had fun finding the best spot for the stations in their classroom, learning through trial and error that the stations are mobile and easy to adjust thanks to their wheels.
It was inspiring to see children actively participating in waste management, building habits that will last a lifetime, and developing a hands-on understanding of sustainability. The day ended with a sense of pride in becoming thoughtful and responsible little recyclers.
